This historic landmark known to many as The Dempsey House, was built in the early 1920's. The house was mostly built up of peanut stone, and was said to be built as a water pump station to generate well water to the surrounding area.
The Dempsey House has many stories, legends, and history. It was said that Mr. Dempsey had lived in the house with his wife and three children. Recently reported to The Forgotten America by a long time resident of Leonardo and neighbor of The Dempsey family, Mr. Dempsey was killed in a car accident at the intersection by Bayshore Junior High School. The Middletown Patch reports that Mr.Dempsey committed suicide and murdered his family, those stories and information are incorrect. Some still believe he had just died of old age. These tales and stories have yet to be confirmed or denied.
As of 2013 The Dempsey House sits in Middletown New Jersey on a residential street to decay.
